Elmer Saunders is a Roleplaying Character on Hogwarts Express MUSH. This is a fake person. Really. None of the stuff mentioned in here happens in reality. His IC Background is below.
Elmer Saunders was born on March 3rd, 1932 to Hilda and Warren Saunders, a pureblood family that was known for its business sense, in Malton, England. His parents spent their time breeding expensive riding and carriage horses. They would sell these horses to the wizarding rich. They weren't particularly picky about if someone was a pureblood or not. Rather, they cared if the person purchasing their horses could care for them properly and, of course, pay for them.
Elmer didn't care that much for business. Sure, he listened to his father talk about the finer points of running a business, grooming him to take over the family business one day, and such things that a father wanted his son to do. But Elmer didn't care that much about horses, either. While he learned all about caring for and breeding the animals, he wouldn't get in the saddle unless he was forced. As a result, instead of being an excellent rider, Elmer never really developed past an average rider's skill level.
Of course, he was taken to various social events designed to show off a family's wealth and lineage. His parents attended these events because usually only the rich showed up and it was an excellent method to get new customers and check in with old, hopefully repeat, customers. The various children would sometimes be brought along on these, particularly the women's afternoon get-togethers, on the pretense of meeting other respectful children. In reality, most of these simply served as a more business opportunities for Elmer's family.
It wasn't until he attended Hogwarts as a member of House Hufflepuff that he started encountering students who were not, in fact, pureblooded. He found the worldview of these people fascinating, but grating. Despite the assurances of some of his friends over the seven years he spent there, he was often hearing from the halfblood and muggle-born that the purebloods were too arrogant and had attitude problems. This ate at Elmer, as he found himself walking in on his friends making snide remarks about purebloods and suddenly shutting up when he walked in, creating an eerie silence between them.
This led to something many people have done, and that's to have a mock conversation with oneself playing the roles of others you know. However, Elmer found he had a talent for mimicing his friend's voices and started working on his vocal skills. He explored areas of ventriloquism, mimicry, and voice throwing. He would eventually find himself recruited during his last few years of school as a member of the school play, either in the chorus singing or onstage acting. In terms of studies, Elmer excelled in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Potions, Care of Magical Creatures, and Arithmancy. He ended up NEWTing in these five courses, gaining an E or better in all of them.
After graduating, Elmer moved to the United States to pursue a career in banking that wasn't filled with so much 'old money', planning to use the business skills his father taught him along with the knowledge of Arithmancy he gained while in school to help in various financial forecasts. Also, he'd heard much about how diverse the United States was from some of the muggle-born students and hoped that the wizarding community would be a little more accepting, both on the pureblood and muggle-born side. He led a fairly quiet, calm life there. He volunteered at a couple local orphanages, entertaining both muggle and wizard children with his voice acting and storytelling.
One day, however, the bank he worked at was looking at some restructuring. During this time, a halfblood wizard by the name of Jonathan Whilton became the president of the bank. Elmer had moved up the chain in a twelve year career. During this restructuring, Whilton noticed that there were a fair number of high-level executives with pureblooded backgrounds. He wanted the bank to project an image of friendliness to all types of wizards, so he began at the top, trimming down the number of executives who were pureblooded and replacing them, 'coincidentally', with halfbloods and muggle-born. Elmer was a victim of this restructuring.
Stunned that he could be cut down like this in the so-called land of opportunity, Elmer returned to England in 1963. He spent some time working the family business, just to build up some old contacts in England. Eventually he found work at a small children's hospital in Kingsbridge.
